Collect and Analyse Aircraft Noise

The aircraft noise monitoring of the UNH consists of four pillars:

1st Presentation of the noise measurements / individual noise events and the fact-based analysis

2nd Calculation of the Frankfurt Aircraft Noise Index (FTI and FNI)

3rd Calculation of
equal-loudness contours including radar-based flight tracks (first feasibility study)

4th Monitoring the implementation of active noise abatement measures

Beyond that, there are more parts, for example a joint project with the DFS for comparison flight transponder data with radar data to determine the validity and reliability of the transponder data.

For the presentation of noise data and individual sound events the UNH prefers a representation, which is Google-maps based and show the overflights and noise measurements of the stations simultaneously with offset of about one hour. The current air traffic with a delay of 30-60 seconds is shown
supplied by the aircraft transponders data positions.

The calculation of the indices
first made and presented for the base year 2007 in late summer / autumn of this year. How the index is built and works, see the separate page. In the future, this page also includes the evaluations.

The
calculation of equal-loudness contours including radar-based flight tracks is a new, not yet proven method, required by local authorities. Since this technically is uncharted waters and there are still many uncertainties, first an internal pilot project with external participation and quality assurance is foreseen. Only if there are reliable results - this may go in the direction towards useful or useless  - will be made publications.

Finally, monitoring the implementation of active noise abatement measures is also in the top priority. The first part of this is a concept of how the individual actions can be recorded and evaluated in order to document their success.

All parts of the monitoring system shall be realized and published during the next weeks.
